Dr. George Melillos is an Associate Professor at the American University of Cyprus and a Researcher and Special Teaching Scientist at the Department of Civil Engineering and Geomatics of the Cyprus University of Technology. With more than 30 years of experience in Computer Science, his expertise includes Remote Sensing, Space Technology, GIS, Advanced Programming, Database Management, Web Applications, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Prompt Engineering. He has also taught at the University of Cyprus and collaborates as a Lecturer with the Cyprus Productivity Centre (KEPA), where he designs and delivers courses in AI, Prompt Engineering, and Python.
With over 65,000 teaching hours, Dr. Melillos has made a substantial contribution to the education of students, university learners, and professionals by designing and delivering highly specialized training programs. He is a certified instructor by leading organizations such as Microsoft, Adobe, ECDL, ITIL, and ISO/IEC 27001. As an HRDA-certified instructor, he is recognized for his expertise in designing and delivering seminars that meet the rigorous standards of the Human Resource Development Authority of Cyprus, combining strong technical expertise with a practical and industry-oriented educational approach.
His academic background includes a Diploma in Programming, an HND in Software Engineering, a BA (Hons) in Computing, an MA in ICT and Education, a PhD in Remote Sensing, GIS and Space Technology, and postdoctoral research in maritime security using Big Data and AI techniques. He also holds the international EITCA/AI certification from the European IT Certification Institute, with specialization in machine learning, neural networks, and deep learning, as well as Google AI Essentials, Google Prompting Essentials, and Prompt Engineering for ChatGPT certification from Vanderbilt University (USA).
He is a member of the Cyprus Computer Society, the British Computer Society (MBCS), IEEE, SPIE, the IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society, and the Cyprus Remote Sensing Society, and is a Chartered Engineer (CEng) registered with the Engineering Council UK. As a lead author, he has published over sixty peer-reviewed journal articles, book chapters, and conference papers, and actively contributes to the academic community as a conference speaker, Academic Editor, and reviewer for international journals.
